Hello Family,
Dad... Wow... That... Sounds a lot like craziness. But, I'm not at all surprised that you changed people's lives for the better. I feel as though there is very little that you can't get through. And get through in practically the best possible way. It is something I aspire to be able to do, just make the best of everything.
That's super exciting that you get to be YM President with Taft! And this time you're not commuting so you get to really be there for all of the activities.
Ah, Keana, I'm glad you went with the old, 'Oooh, let's throw things on from the box!' That's always lots of fun.
Taft, I'm glad you had such a wonderful experience! I'm sure you made a handsome hercules as well.
Mom, that's SO exciting that you got to do missionaryish work. (Yes, I met Sebastian) and... yeah, you should probably get him some material... that's not anti.
As for my coat and boots... I shall be... buying those. Soon. We'll go buy them this afternoon.
As for me, I have now officially been in Sweden for a month... It doesn't feel like it. At all. I don't feel as though I've improved as much as I would have liked, but, hey, that just means that I have the opportunity to work harder this month to improve.
So, every month we choose a Christ-like attribute to work on. Last month I chose Diligence. I felt like it would be good to start out with the thought that I'm going to work hard and keep that with me throughout the rest of my mission.
This month I'm going to work on patience. Just patience with Everything. I need it. Sometimes with myself too...
As for our investigators, there is a little sad news, Lyla, is in the hospital down in Lund, I don't completely understand what happened but she woke up with blood coming out of her ears, nose, and eyes. She doesn't know when the Doctor's will let her out and she's feeling very lonely right now. We're trying to figure out if there is anything we can do for her. Lund is out of our area, so we're actually going to see if we can get permission to go and visit her.
Nana, is feeling unprepared for his baptism, he wants to push it back. He says he doesn't feel ready... So we'll see how that works. I don't know what one should do as a missionary when the investigator doesn't feel ready. It's something personal to them, whether they can make the covenants that baptism entails.
So... A little miracle for this week. Nana texts us Wednesday morning to see if we can meet before Swedish Class. We say, 'Of course!' So we're meeting with him in the church, and there are some of the youth from our branch in the church, halfway through the lesson they open the door and there is a girl with them. I don't know who she is... and neither does Syster Richins. We introduce ourselves, the normal, and do you want to know what she says? (You really do...) And this is a rough translation, because... saying it in Swedish wouldn't actually help you any. She says 'I'm looking for some direction in life, I was told that the people here could help me with that.' ...Pretty sure we have a message that can DEFINITELY help with that. It was... amazing. The spirit definitely had a hand in that, inspiring Nana to set up that appointment with us, inspiring and encouraging Jannica (that's her name) to have the courage to enter a church building. Preparing her to be ready to do so. Just... everything. We taught her a lesson on Sunday... And, I really know this can bless her life, she brought her boyfriend with her... and I just know it can bring them happiness. We don't come into this world forced to walk alone, we are children of our Heavenly Father. He loves us.
Also, the Larssons, a family in our branch, brought... a relative who's relation... I'm not positive on. I think she's a cousin to the Father. And she's just so adorable. We taught her, and as we were teaching the restoration, she sort of interrupts, 'I've been wanting to come to this church for a while, and I like what you're saying... but is there a book I can read to let me know for myself?' (Again, rough translation) But... yeah... We DEFINITELY have a book you can read. We call it the Book of Mormon, and if you read this here promise at the end it tells you that, yes, you can know for yourself. Again, absolutely AMAZING.
The Lord is definitely in the work.
Ok, quick... not story, but just thought. I was reading the Book of Mormon, as I do fairly often saying as I'm a missionary... And you know how sometimes you read a verse and you're like... Aaaah! That was so awesome! I had that experience... Except with a whole chapter. I just LOVE Ether 12. In particularly you should read Ether 12 verse 4. Great verse within a great chapter, within a great book, within a great book... It's just a really good book... I do hope you're all enjoying reading it.
Kay, for the record... Applesauce cookies... Those sound pretty healthy right? I mean, it has the word Applesauce in it. It's very deceiving... They aren't healthy... Delicious? Yes. Healthy? not so much...
Really... not much happened this week. Life is good... The gospel is true.
I'm... tired.
Oh wait, there is a little more to say, this past Thursday one of the elders in the District is coming to the end of his time here in Sweden, and since it was his last week in district meeting we held a funeral. Can I just say, missionaries and their mission lingo... SO strange. I was 'born' here in Kristianstad, my 'Mother' is Syster Richins, I have like 3 'Dads' and I'll get more (you only ever have one mother... normally... there are some exceptions... I think... I'm still a little confused) I'll 'die' in 17 months, if I'm training someone when I 'die' then they 'killed' me... yeah... really strange mission lingo. And very frightening the first time... "Oh yeah, Äldste so and so just killed his dad." Wait... what? yeah, very strange stuff missions.
Anyway, so the point is he had a funeral... They... went all out for it. There were eulogies, there was the burning of a coffin on the water... there was... a lot of strange things. I think missionaries might go a little crazy here in the mission field.
Also, we got to go help Bonnie this week. We planted Tulip bulbs, so next spring we shall be greeted by great beauty and happiness in the form of lovely little flowers coming up to say hello to the world. That was super fun. We were also going to help her to fix her fence which fell down in a storm... ooh, I'll go more into that in a sec. But, things being as they were, and certain required objects being missing, we really just helped her take the part of the fence that had fallen down apart. It was fun. I like taking things apart. Especially since we got to hit things with a hammer. (And no one died in the process... hammers ARE very dangerous...) But it was great being able to be of service to someone. Bonnie was so wonderful letting us help her with that. And then she gave us food. So I feel like Bonnie did much more service than Syster Richins and I.
Oh yeah, the storm. There was a ...type 3 storm (I'm not sure the word was type, but it's the one I'm going with) which apparently is the worst sort of wind storm here in Sweden. It wasn't so bad in Kristianstad, but it was fence/tree/other things knocking down. We drank some hot chocolate, it seemed like a very fitting thing to do.
Yeah, not much to say this week.
Um, yeah, that's all for this week.
Have a WONDERFUL week!
Read Ether 12. :D Alright, so you don't HAVE to... but it's a good chapter.
So, I love you lots,
Jag Älskar Dig
Love,
Syster Kjanela Fawcett
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about getting out there and dancing in the rain. (But it might be wise to be wearing a coat and boots, other wise you might catch a chill...)
There are no rules of architecture for a castle in the clouds.
